Candidate Spotlight: Mike Matthews, Kirkby Town Centre Manager

Foundation Recruitment caught up with Mike Matthews to hear all about his career to date.

Tell us about your previous career experience and how you came to work in the shopping centre industry.

I have 17 years experience as Town Centre Manager at Wigan and 13 years’ experience in Shopping Centre Management at various locations.

What are your interests outside of work?

I’m a keen gardener and like to keep fit – I previously ran my own karate club and have black belts in karate and kung fu.

What are your future plans for the Shopping Centre?

The Centre is set to submit a planning application this month to redevelop a 200,000 Sqft area. This will create a new Supermarket, Retail Park and Cinema offer.

We had a very successful 2016 marketing plan, running events throughout the year.  New Festive decorations were installed for Christmas and Kirkby was voted the best in Merseyside via the Liverpool Echo.

Plans are now in place for an exciting 2017 events schedule and we are anticipating a similar success!
