The Purple Apple Awards

Thursday 5th May saw the best and brightest in Shopping Centre Marketing gather for an evening of recognition and celebration at the 13th annual BCSC Purple Apple Marketing Awards Dinner in London.

Established in 2004, the Purple Apple Awards were introduced by the BCSC to highlight the achievements of the finest talent in the industry and this years awards served to further highlight the continued creativity of marketers in our industry.

With the highest ever number of entries, with 144 in total, 24 Purple Apples were awarded this year in recognition of the impressive marketing initiatives and events that take place in shopping centres and retail destinations every day.

Notable wins included a Purple Apple for Manchester Arndale for their successful B2B Campaign ‘Talking Shop’ which launched the year’s marketing calendar to retailers. Golden Square Shopping Centre, Warrington also received recognition for their targeted event campaigns; ‘GS CollectiON’ – ‘a fashion campaign with a difference, created using innovative life size digital screens showcasing 300 products’ and ‘GS Jungle’; an interactive play destination that delighted families and resulted in increased footfall of 8.8% YOY and a further increase in tenant sales by up to 3.3%. Westfield further impressed on the night with their flurry of wins including a coveted Golden Apple Award for their ‘Future Fashion’ campaign; an immersive and interactive 4D experience that saw visitors to Westfield London and Stratford City explore the latest SS15 trends through hologram technology.

A special Foundation Recruitment accolade must be awarded to the team at Ladysmith Shopping Centre in Ashton-under-Lyne for their ingenious and entertaining take on a certain recognisable television advertisement which saw Neil Lindsay, Centre Manager strut down the streets in a pair of denim shorts for Red Nose Day. Neil, we salute you! #AshtonStrut

This year’s awards were held in the heart of the City at The Brewery. With awards presented by Edith Bowman of Radio 1 and Glastonbury Festival and glorious decoration from the evening’s sponsor MK Illuminations, a great night was had by all and Centre Managers and Marketing Managers danced in to the early hours.

Congratulations to all of the winners on the night and we look forward to seeing you all at The SCEPTREs next month!
